Unsaturated fats are generally considered to be "good" fats. They consist of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (these are long words that stand for fairly simple things).
Monounsaturated fats are generally beneficial to us. They lower cholesterol levels and help to prevent heart attacks. Monounsaturated fats became "famous" when doctors first noticed how people living in Mediterranean countries had low levels of heart diseases. It turned out that the Mediterranean diet is rich in sources of monounsaturated fats, like olive oil. Include the following products in your diet on a daily basis to enrich it with monounsaturated fats: olives and olive oil, natural canola and peanut oils, avocados, most nuts (almonds, pecans, cashews, peanuts, macadamia nuts, hazelnuts), and high-oleic safflower and sunflower oils.
