Intensity is the amount of physical power (expressed as a percentage of the maximal oxygen consumption) that the body uses when performing an activity. Exercising at the correct intensity can help you get the most out of your physical activity - making sure you're not pushing too hard or too little.
For weight loss, the more intense or longer your activity, the more calories you burn.
Balance is important. Overdoing it can increase your risk of soreness, injury and burnout. Start at a low intensity if you're new to exercise. Gradually build up to a moderate or vigorous intensity.
Be realistic and don't push yourself too hard or too fast. Fitness is a lifetime commitment, not a sprint to the finish line. See your doctor before starting a new exercise program, especially if you have any medical conditions or you're not sure what your exercise intensity should be.
