Iron is an essential component of hemoglobin; it helps to transfer oxygen to our organs and tissues. We need to consume about 20 mg iron daily, and women need more iron than men, as they lose more of this element every month during their menstrual cycle. Pregnant women need even more iron, or – 30 mg per day.
People with iron deficiencies often suffer from drowsiness, fatigue, problems with skin and nails, dry mouth and anemia.
To avoid the problems associated with an iron deficiency, it is necessary to eat more products rich in this element: liver and liver by-products, oysters, eggs, spinach, beans, asparagus, chickpeas, fortified cereal, pumpkin seeds, and lentils.
