Excitement is attractive. It promises to bring bright emotions and unforgettable experiences into your life, which sometimes seem very ordinary. A desire to excite the mind is dictated by seeking a reward in the form of saturated life, but beware: it can easily become addictive and a way of escaping reality. You get instant gratification and disappointment afterward, as you live in this “ordinary” reality.

The first thing to remember is: acknowledge your excitement. Once you’ve noticed an urge to stimulate yourself, accept it and start observing what’s happening in your mind without stimulation. You may find yourself suffering, bored or sad – it is important to let yourself feel these emotions. What can your emotions tell about your life? What is so unsatisfying or even unbearable that you get a strong desire to take your mind away?

Use meditation to silence the mind; it is a healthy way to calm down and be present. Support your practice by creating a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere: appropriate dimmed lighting, candles and warm space fit well into it. Scents, such as jasmine, sandalwood, pine or lavender, are well-known for their calming properties. Finally, listen to music: sounds of nature or classical music will help immerse into deep relaxation.

Soaking in a bath with essential oils works perfectly too. Put some lavender, bergamot or Frankincense oil in warm water to unwind: the oil substances absorbed by the skin have a soothing effect.

You can choose any other way to relax which works for you, just try to dive deep into that process and take away all possible distraction that will get your mind busy. Dedicate some time to yourself and enjoy the benefits of relaxation.
