There are several ways to keep yourself motivated throughout a training program. One of the best ways is to set attainable goals and celebrate them with small rewards as you reach them.
Consider the following tips
- Make it a goal to run at least three times per week, each week.
- Don't just try to 'lose weight' – be more specific. For example, you can set a goal of losing five pounds within a month. Weight loss has many benefits and is a great way to chart progress.
- Sign up for a 5K that is a few months away and train to finish it within a specific time
- If you already run races, aim to take 30 seconds off of your PR (personal record) during a race this year
- When you accomplish a goal, allow yourself to feel proud and enjoy your achievement.
- Reward yourself. Buy a new pair of shorts, a nice running shirt, a new book, etc. Something to enjoy and memorize your accomplishment.
