People yearn to experience a sense of excitement – which is a very natural and cheerful feeling. Infusing it in daily life is a great recipe for staying in a great mood, being full of energy and feeling on top of the world. But this positive feeling can also turn into the enemy, by getting you overexcited and out of control. You may drop out of your usual life for a moment: being in this state blocks you from staying focused on certain things and may cause the actions which are uncalled for. It is also dangerous as after a huge excitement often comes a burnout.

The mind seeking for stimulation needs to be relaxed, and meditation is your ally in this sense. Practicing it can help you calm down the stimulated senses, regulate the excitement, balance high-low stimulation and get more emotionally intelligent. Step by step you’ll get more aware of your emotions and will be able to keep them under control, if necessary. When diving into a meditative process, you become more present and focused on what’s happening inside, and thus, relax.

Remember to watch your breathing. Start your meditation with a few deep breaths, inhaling and exhaling. Then keep breathing at your normal tempo and try observing the process: notice yourself while breathing in and out. You will calm the nervous system and relax the body from the very beginning.

Complete a few mediation cycles, and you’ll find yourself able to listen to your internal dialogue, notice your feelings and act upon your true desires. With regular practice, you acquire a great tool you can always use to unwind and enjoy various situations.
