Background

Loch Harbour Group is seeking an experienced Animator/Motion Graphics Designer/Video Editor to join a multidisciplinary multimedia production team supporting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T). The desired candidate for hire must have exceptional design skills and diverse experience producing 2D/3D motion graphic and animated digital media products as well as edit short and longform video products.

This is a full-time position with benefits and does not require working on-site at the client location in Washington, DC.  All equipment, software and other required resources to perform duties assigned, will be provided.

Candidates must possess active DHS suitability or able to obtain suitability

Job Duties

Day-to-day functional tasks and responsibilities include the following:

  • The production of high-quality2D/3D motion graphics and animation independently as well as with others in collaborative team environments and workflows.
  • Working with program managers, technical subject matter experts, internal/external communication leads, and multimedia producers, to develop graphics and animations that accurately and attractively convey technical concepts and information.
  • Providing thought leadership on all technical issues related to the design, development and production of video effects, motion graphics and animation, including rendering, performance, streaming, data management, and storage.
  • Editing polished audiovisual products from video media (taped interviews, raw b-roll), audio commentary/narration and other elements, and add still/motion graphics, visual and audio effects, music, etc. as required.
  • Encoding and distribution of video files in a variety of formats, all optimized for distribution via targeted distribution platforms and channels (websites, social media, streaming video platforms, webcasts, exhibit installations, etc).
  • Edit video products that meet client strategic communication objectives, content priorities, production standards and accessibility requirements.
  • Support in studio and field video production shoots as needed to include in-person attendance, to ensure that media capture needs are met and that media captured conforms to planned post-production video editorial, visual effects, motion graphic design and/or animation requirements.
  • Research, acquire and utilize multimedia assets and utilize them to produce creative, innovative and engaging video media products that meet client communication needs.
  • Demonstrated mastery of video/audio editing and audio mixing.
  • Producing creative concept drafts and storyboards that give project team members a clear vision of what proposed animations, motion graphic and video products will look like.
  • Work collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven team environment.

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in Motion or related field commensurate with the functional requirements for this position. Requires a minimum of 3-5 years of successful animation experience or 5 years of relevant experience without a degree
  • Possess active DHS suitability or able to obtain suitability
  • 2D/3D motion graphic and animation design
  • Strong audio/video editing skills
  • Strong familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud applications including Premiere, After Effects, Audition, Photoshop and Illustrator
  • High competency utilization of video visual effects and animation platforms such as Cinema 4D, 3D Studio Max and Maya.
  • Studio and location audio/video recording
  • Previsualization video storyboards production
  • Audiovisual product script production that conveys narrative explanations of visuals juxtaposed with onscreen titles and/or voiceover narration.
  • Bachelor’s degree in an academic field of study that’s commensurate with the functional requirements for this position (i.e. fine arts, media communications, etc) or a related field, and a minimum of 3 years of related professional experience. Having a minimum of five-years of relevant experience without a Bachelor’s degree commensurate with the functional requirements for this position is acceptable.
  • Digital portfolio samples showcasing previously produced video, motion graphics and animation samples along with documentation on specific roles provided for each sample, MUST be provided.
