Guilt is what happens when we feel we have failed to do the “right” thing. But what is the right thing? While sticking to your exercise routine is the ideal, it’s not always a reality, and that’s OK! Providing it’s not happening too often, taking a short break from your workout could be just what your body needs. These are our top tips for embracing the balance and getting rid of that exercise guilt:
Look at all the good things you did today – tasks accomplished, rest taken, good deeds done, and practice some positive affirmations. Give yourself a mental high-5 by repeating these successes back to yourself.
If you keep a note of your fitness success, you’re a) more likely to stick to it and b) able to see how far you’ve come. Keep an eye on this journal and see how deserved that rest truly is.
We can’t win them all, and some days just don’t turn out the way we want them to… and sometimes that’s our fault. But, it’s ok. The worst thing you can do is wallow in guilt and give up. So, it’s time to start forgiving and cut yourself some slack. You’re only human, after all.
