Wash the pan with hot, soapy water and a scrub brush. Even if it’s new, this helps remove any factory coating. Dry it thoroughly.
Pour a small amount of oil onto a paper towel or cloth. Rub a thin layer of oil all over the pan, including the bottom and handle.
Wipe off any excess oil with a clean paper towel or cloth. The pan should look shiny, but not oily.
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Place the pan upside down on the middle rack of the oven. Place a sheet of aluminum foil on the lower rack to catch any drips.
Bake the pan for 1 hour. This process allows the oil to polymerize and form a protective coating.
Turn off the oven and let the pan cool inside the oven. This gradual cooling process helps the seasoning set properly.
For the best results, repeat the oiling and heating process 2-3 times. This will build a strong, durable coating.
