Shachtman had split from the SWP in 1940 over differences with the majority of the SWP and Leon Trotsky on the question of the class nature of the Russian state. In mid 1956, Fourth International became International Socialist Review. Each issue name is a link to a .pdf file of the entire issue. Marty Goodman and the Riazanov Library Project between 2012 and 2014 created a complete set of scans of NI 1934–1940, FI 1940–1956, and ISR 1956–early 1970. In the tables of contents on this web site, each article name is a link to an HTML text version of the article in question, part of an equally massive earlier project done by Einde O’Callaghan. David Walters, Director of the Holt Labor Library helped by contributing a portion of the original issues. --- **Keywords:** public
